As someone that is currently doing a railway trip through Europe, I would smash the window I think. There are so much views to be seen during my train trips and I’m not looking at even more ads during my 12 hour train ride.
And of course it’s fucking LG. Life’s good huh? Is that why you’re sucking every trivial enjoyment out of our everyday routine?
Also, you’re not the first to think of putting LCDs on train windows. Singapore did it first on their metro, but instead of this bullshit, they made it so the window blurs when the train runs next to apartments to give the residents privacy.
Plus, it’s OLED, so in a year it’ll be burned in to hell and back with more image ghosting than a fucking haunted house.
In Beijing they had ads on LED strips in subway tunnels since circa 2012. As the train speeds by the LEDs flash to create an image you only see via persistence of vision.
This is similar, but has the potential to follow individual targets PK Dick style.
Will be interesting to see how this clashes with health and safety.
For example train design in Spain was changed to disperse explosions better as a reaction to the train bombings.
Would OLED screens be shatterable in the same way? Would they aid in dispersing energy or act as a pressure cooker?
Further to this would they be easily broken by safety and rescue services in the event of an emergency or by passengers with those little red hammers?
These tech articles always assume every cutting edge price of tech will be adopted immediately if the price is right and I don’t see health and safety taking that lying down personally.
Unless the company can prove the screens are as safe in an emergency situation as normal windows at least. Conversely imagine if a train derailed and people were trapped and burnt alive because they couldn’t smash the OLED screen advertising windows or the rescue services couldn’t be as effective?

LG: (We Want to Make Your) Life Garbage
Is there some spot to hit really hard or slash with a razor to disable it?
Just wait till it burns in after a year. OLEDs suck for longevity.

At least I don’t have to worry about this. I live in the US and we don’t have passenger trains 😁
Injured? Call the best legal team in the BLANK metro area
Can it really be a metro area without a metro?
Its weird that its a perk

OmG So InNovaTIvE!
Deutsche Bahn better reduce their prices and improve their service if I’m expected to have ads in my peripheral vision for a whole train ride.
Don’t worry, I bet planes will be getting their share too.
or planes might just ditch the windows altogether and have non-transparent OLED walls:
https://www.popsci.com/article/technology/future-airplanes-might-replace-windows-oled-screens/
(that article’s lack of mention of the advertising potential is… something, anyway)
That looks cool. But damn, flying in a cabin like that would make me anxious af.
Messages pop up over various landmarks below, with survival odds if you crashed there, and time to fall from your current altitude.
They targeted trains. Trains.
imagine going on a train and seeing one of those ads, ugh
With every passing day we are moving closer and closer to living in the Cyberpunk universe.
We’ve lived in cyberpunk for years. Everyone just missed it, due to lack of brain plugs and robot hookers.
Don’t forget flying cars and not everyone living in Hong Kong.
You could even say it’s just… not evenly distributed.
I absolutely would! Nice reference btw
I will look forward to breaking these
Ah yes, capitalist innovation
